Richard Harpin spent four years working for Proctor & Gamble in Newcastle where he learned about marketing, before joining Deloitte as a Management Consultant. It wasn’t long before his passion for entrepreneurship came to the fore, and he set up his own venture.
Richard pitched his idea to provide plumbing and drainage cover in return for a small annual fee to every water company in the UK until finally, South Staffordshire Water said yes, and HomeServe was formed as a joint venture.
HomeServe subsequently expanded into heating, ventilation and air conditioning and now has over 8.6 million customers globally. Homeowners can also source tradespeople for a huge variety of jobs through the Home Experts business, Checkatrade (UK) which HomeServe acquired in 2017.
Richard’s latest venture is Growth Partner – an organisation that works with founder-led businesses generating profits of between £500k and £5 million to quickly help them breakthrough to £10 million plus.
“My goal is to help 100,000 businesses reach a valuation of £1 billion. If we can double the number of large businesses in the UK, we will make a significant difference to the health of the UK economy.”
